Spurs could sign “insane” £87m star who scores more often than Kane & Haaland

Despite their incredible season, the Lilywhites could still use another center forward.

Santiago Giménez, Kane, Haland, and Tottenham’s viewpoint

There is still a lot of work to be done, but Tottenham Hotspur has had a fantastic start to the 2023–24 Premier League season, and manager Ange Postecoglou’s magic has hinted at illustrious success in the future.

After such a dismal season in 2022/23, Spurs are off to their best start ever with eight victories and two draws through the first ten games of the English top-flight season. They are also doing so with an impressive level of teamwork and understanding.

In fact, the London team’s poor performance in the previous season led to an eighth-place finish, eliminating them from European competition. As a result, club record scorer and devastating talisman Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich, ending his long-standing relationship with the Lilywhites.

Postecoglou, despite the seriousness of the departure, did not sign a seasoned center-forward; instead, he signed 20-year-old prospect Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central for approximately £13 million. Heung-min Son, the team’s recently appointed captain, has been the focal forward, scoring eight goals in his last seven games.

That being said, it is possible that Postecoglou views the purchase of a new striker as his top priority in 2024. Since the continental stage is once again in the cards, depth and firepower are essential to the team’s success, and a big-money move could be made shortly.

Tottenham’s transfer targets

Despite interest from Tottenham and Real Madrid, Dutch Eredivisie champions Feyenoord have reportedly set a startling asking price of more than €100 million (£87 million) for their star striker Santiago Gimenez, according to 90min.

Spurs may make an offer since it is known that Los Blancos have been keeping an eye on the Mexican for some time but do not currently view him as a top target.

Spurs are interested in signing him, but a January transfer is unlikely as the Dutch team has stated he will stay in Rotterdam until the very least the end of the season.

Gimenez’s valuation is undoubtedly a potential deterrent, but Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, probably has the money to sign a brilliant new center-forward and could find a new leader from the front to provide plenty of goals and lessen the scoring load currently on Son.

Feyenoord believes that Gimenez, who is 22 years old, is one of the best players the division has ever seen, and that Gimenez’s transfer should be valued accordingly, surpassing the record £86 million paid by Manchester United to sign Antony from Ajax.

Santiago Gimenez’s best qualities

Levy would need to approve a transfer that surpasses the failed £63 million acquisition of Tanguy Ndombele from French team Lyon in 2019 as Tottenham’s record signing.

However, Tottenham seems to be adapting to the current climate as they have made significant summertime spending to thwart Kane’s sale and provide Postecoglou the resources he needs to create success.

The Australian’s strong start will only strengthen his calls for adding more elite players to the team, and despite Gimenez’s astronomical price tag, he still has a chance to defeat the N17.

Hailed by journalist Antonio Mango for his “insane” shooting prowess, he has more than enough production to leave his mark. He actually scored 28 goals and provided three assists as his team won the Dutch championship the previous season.

He barely needed any time to get back into gear this season, as evidenced by his 15 goals and 3 assists in just 12 games across all competitions.

Gimenez’s incredible feats left talent scout Jacek Kulig praising his “simply amazing” Eredivisie career thus far, and Kulig had little doubt about the player’s ability to succeed on the big stage, acting as the arrowhead at a team like Tottenham.

Outscoring Kane & Haaland

Gimenez is currently experiencing a “insane” purple patch, but he is also beginning to show signs of a well-rounded and dependable game that may help him succeed in the Premier League.

Gimenez has a goal-scoring instinct that will remain no matter where he works, despite the doubts of some who believe he cannot maintain his current pace in the Premier League.

The 5 foot 11 talisman’s ability as a predator in the danger area is demonstrated by the fact that, according to FBref, he is among the top 1% of forwards in divisions comparable to the Eredivisie for goals and the top 1% for touches in the attacking box per 90.

The 22-cap Mexican is currently scoring 0.94 goals per game, which is actually higher than the scoring averages of two of Europe’s most illustrious strikers, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland of Manchester City (0.68 & 0.75, respectively).

In fact, Kane was traded to Bayern Munich in the summer, and in just 13 games so far, he has already lit up the Bundesliga with 14 goals and seven assists.

Nevertheless, since joining Pep Guardiola’s team from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has scored 65 goals in just 68 games. Rory Smith of BBC Sport has called him a “generational” talent. Haaland was crucial to the team’s treble victory.

Gimenez, who possesses an intrinsic scoring ability that may outlast the team’s misfortune, could be the key to unlocking a new level of Spurs’ attacking potential in the years to come, especially with creative teammates like James Maddison at his back.

Kane vs Haaland since 22/23

Trophies          0                                        4

Gimenez has been outscoring Haaland and Kane, two of the best center-forwards in world football, for the past 12 months, but it is unlikely that he would continue to put up such incredible numbers if and when he moves up to the Premier League. Haaland and Kane are both incredible strikers in their own right.

That being said, he can easily become one of the top forwards in the division with his excellent positioning and finishing skills, especially when used in a winning Spurs team.

In order to secure the signature of a man who could lead the line for years to come as the renaissance in north London begins to take shape, Postecoglou must persuade Levy that the enormous fee is worth giving up.
