There was no disagreement over South Africa’s 12–11 victory in Sunday’s Rugby World Cup in Paris, according to All Blacks coach Ian Foster (NZT).

About their three playoff one-point victories, Foster said the Springboks demonstrated their ability to battle in the shadows.

“They simply know how to play. They are seasoned and powerful. They are able to play the game at their own speed.”

Foster said the use of the TMO was something the game should consider in the future, not on the night of the final, in a game that was overshadowed by the red card given to captain Sam Cane and the let-off given to Springboks captain Siya Kolisi for a similar offense.

“That TMO exhibited the same behavior toward us as it did during the Irish series the previous year. Thus, we anticipated what we received.”

He praised South Africa for their perseverance throughout the competition.

It’s heartbreaking for us, and I consider our team’s effort. After the damage that the red card caused, we really gave ourselves a chance in the second half.”

Foster declared that he was not interested in discussing red cards. An analysis of that would come at a later date.

“There are certain problems with the game that need to be fixed. That is not bitterness. Two comparable instances occurred, one of which was red and the other yellow.”

He claimed there were opportunities for both parties in the high-stress situation.

“To regain our position, score that attempt; it is rejected, and we are given another chance. We gave it everything we had, but it was not meant to be.

“Everyone is devastated. I am equally proud, but we wanted this so badly to win. the readiness to face out against a formidable squad. We made a huge contribution to the dramatic final.”

Foster stood up for Cane, his captain, saying he was a worthy leader of the All Blacks.

“I am immensely happy to be his coach. When that [red card] occurs, it’s going to be a rough day at work, and he’s going to be quite emotional.”

Cane stated he was having a hard time finding the right words to describe how hurt he felt.

“I am incredibly pleased of the team for their ability to rally and give us a chance to win that game. It says a lot about the group in its whole.

It says a great deal about the group as a whole. These guys are amazing; they genuinely care about representing the All Blacks and elevating New Zealand’s standing. Right now, there’s a lot of heartache in the sheds. It’s difficult.”

Cane claimed he was unaware of a problem when he tackled Springbok center Jesse Kriel.

“Now that we’ve been here for two months, anything involving the head has consequences. I’m not here to argue for or against the choice that was made. It is unchangeable.

“Unfortunately, it is something I am going to have to live with forever.”
