The midfielder, who takes over the captaincy in the absence of the injured Antoine Dupont, told reporters he shares a special bond with Kolisi after spending a season together at Racing 92 following the 2023 World Cup.

“We talk almost every week. He’s my brother,” said Fickou. “We spent a year together at Racing. Even before that, we were already close.

Siya is an exceptional person. As a player, he’s won everything – he’s a legend of his country. As a man, he’s straight, loyal, and a friend for life.

“But on Saturday, there are no friends on the field. I imagine he’d say the same.”

Kolisi will lead the Boks in his 100th Test on Saturday, a milestone that has added emotional weight to a rematch steeped in history and respect.

Fickou said Les Bleus are relishing the challenge of facing the double world champions again – two years after their heartbreaking World Cup quarter-final defeat to the Boks at the same venue.

“We don’t talk about revenge,” he said. “It’s a new match, a new story with new players. We’re focused on what we are today. Of course, we’ve learned from that loss, but now it’s about performing in this moment.”

Fickou also praised Dupont’s quiet influence in camp this week and said the home side is fully aware of what awaits them.

“Antoine brings calm and leadership even without speaking much. And we all know South Africa’s power and precision – they’re an incredible team, physical and relentless. But we’re ready for the fight.”

Kick-off at the Stade de France is 10:10pm (SA time).
