Both Jordan Hendrikse and Siya Masuku have not been considered for the Sharks’ European tour starting against the Glasgow Warriors on Friday night, due to injury.
Despite a lengthy injury list and several Springboks unavailable, the squad still features a core of experienced leaders, including Vincent Tshituka – who will captain the side – alongside Lukhanyo Am, Jaden Hendrikse, Jason Jenkins and Swys Venter.
Coach John Plumtree admitted preparations have been far from ideal, with pre-season disrupted by injuries and Currie Cup commitments, but says the Sharks are eager for the challenge.
Glasgow are obviously a tough side, a champion team two years ago and always tough to beat at home, so it’s going to be a massive challenge for the boys,” he said.
“The Dragons in week two in Wales will also be demanding, and then finishing with Leinster … that’s going to be another big game, it’s Leinster after all.”
Alongside Hendrikse and Masuku, a long list of injured players includes Aphelele Fassi, Trevor Nyakane, and several promising youngsters.
Still, Plumtree believes the tour provides a valuable opportunity to test the Sharks’ depth and grow cohesion early in the season.
“We’re ready to go and looking forward to getting away and spending some time together,” he said.
