Vodacom Bulls coach Phiwe Nomlomo took pride in his team’s performance at the Cape Town Stadium, where they put Western Province to the sword in their Currie Cup opener on Saturday.

The Bulls kicked off the 2025 Currie Cup with a 48-23 win at Cape Town Stadium, running in six tries with scrumhalf Zak Burger and No 8 Jeandre Rudolph claiming a brace each.
Nomlomo singled out Chamberlain, who was flawless from the kicking tee, successful with all eight of his kicks which included six conversions and two penalties.
The last time he started was about five months ago, and to come out and put in a performance like he did, I’m sure he’ll be incredibly chuffed,” said the Bulls coach. That bravery to keep pushing the boundary – that was class.”
Nomlomo was especially proud of his team’s efforts in the first half, when they streaked to a 38-16 halftime lead.
“We were clinical,” said Nomlomo.
“That’s where everything started. I think you when you’re up against the blue machine and it’s going like that, it is a bit difficult to play against. Province were incredibly gutsy, but their discipline probably didn’t help them at all and probably killed the game for them.”
WP had three players sin-binned during the first half at the Cape Town Stadium. Captain Zain Davids and locks Gary Porter and Alex Groves were all shown yellow for breakdown infringements. At one point in the game, WP had to scratch their heads at scrum time because both their locks had been sent off within a minute or two of each other.
The Bulls now head to their fortress Loftus Versfeld where they’ll prepare to face the Sharks XV who were blown away by the Lions at Ellis Park.
