Bulls confirm signing of Stormers playmaker

The news that Stormers scrumhalf Paul de Wet is moving North to join the Bulls, is now official.

The 29-year-old signed a short-term deal with the Pretoria side, who arrived in the capital at the beginning of July, and will call the fortress home until the end of the 2025/26 season.

De Wet has been with the Cape side since the 2017/18 season, and made more than 80 caps across the URC, Champions Cup and Super Rugby competitions.

The No. 9 helped the Stormers capture the inaugural URC title three years ago and reportedly indicated that the move North will boost his chances of representing the back-to-back World Champions in the near future.

The 29‑year‑old has joined the Pretoria-based side on a short-term contract, which keeps him at Loftus Versfeld until the end of the 2025–26 season .

Why It Matters for the Bulls

Experience boost: De Wet arrives with major-match pedigree, including high‑pressure URC and Champions Cup exposure.

Depth in key position: Filling in the scrum-half spot, he provides competition and coverage behind the No. 9 jersey.

Possible Springbok callback: The timing and move might help strengthen his case for national honors.

This acquisition comes as part of a larger recruiting push by the Bulls. On the same day, they also finalized deals to bring in Cheetahs flanker Jeandre Rudolph, and bolster their engine room with Springbok locks Marvin Orie (from Perpignan) and Nico Janse van Rensburg (from Montpellier) .

De Wet has been a key player for the Stormers since the 2017–18 season, amassing over 80 caps in various competitions like the United Rugby Championship, Champions Cup, and Super Rugby . Notably, he featured in their historic URC title victory three years ago .

The move north is more than a change of jersey — it’s a strategic shift. De Wet is believed to be making the move to enhance his chances of being considered again for Springbok selection, especially as South Africa look to solidify their midfield play
