South Africa Africa opened their campaign with a scrappy 17-5 victory over Nigeria. Despite struggling for rhythm early on, Joel Leotlela opened the scoring with a sharp finish after a dummy pass from Ricardo Duarttee.

Substitute Sebastiaan Jobb added a converted try in the 11th minute, while Masande Mtshali sealed the win with a late effort after Nigeria closed the gap to 12-5.

The second match saw a marked improvement, with South Africa beating Zambia 33-14. Joubert Schoeman scored the opening try off a turnover, and although Zambia equalised twice to make it 14-14 at the break, the Springboks pulled away in the second half.

Schoeman crossed again straight from the restart, while Mfundo Ndhlovu powered over later in the half, showcasing his physicality.

South Africa rounded off the day with a dominant 33-0 win over Burkina Faso. Playing with patience and width, they controlled the match throughout.

Jaden Nel touched down in the corner to open the scoring, followed by tries from Ezekiel Ngobeni and Leotlela. Grant de Jager impressed with his two-way play, while Ndhlovu was sensational in the second half, scoring twice

Elsewhere, Kenya beat Cote d’Ivoire 36-0, Madagascar beat Tunisia 31-7, Nigeria beat Burkina Faso, and Zimbabwe overcame Mauritius.
