Northampton Saints announces Replacement for Fijian lock Temo Mayanavanua
Northampton Saints are hoping to replace departing Fijian lock Temo Mayanavanua with a former Junior Bok.
According to RugbyPass, the Champions Cup finalists are eyeing JJ van der Mescht, who has two years left on his Stade Francais contract but has reportedly fallen out of favour with director of rugby Phil Dowson,
The 1.98m, 145kg lock has made 19 appearances in this season’s Top 14, including 13 starts, but only started one of their last five games since January.
The website claims the relegation-threatened French club, who are languishing in 12th position on the Top 14 log with two rounds remaining, are willing to negotiate a deal that would see the 26-year-old join Saints at the end of the season.
Van der Mescht signed for Stade Francais in 2021 with the long-term plan to qualify to play for France, which would be scuppered by a move to England.
