West Brom says goodbye to their Hero

West Brom have had to say goodbye to a lot of their former stars on the pitch in recent years.

Baggies legend James Morrison retired in 2019 after over 300 appearances for the club.

However, Morrison did return to West Brom and became the interim manager after Tony Mowbray was sacked.

On top of this, Chris Brunt also retired in 2021 after 400 appearances for West Brom.

However, many of the Baggies’ former Premier League heros are still dropping like flies.

Carlos Vela had a loan spell at West Brom during the 2010/11 campaign as the Baggies enjoyed a successful return to the Premier League.

The Mexican winger played eight times throughout the season, where he netted two goals.

His most famous moment was easily his last-ditch equaliser against Black Country rivals Wolves, to deny the Wolverhampton side a win at The Hawthorns.

Now, after a successful career in both Spain and the MLS, the 36-year-old has announced that he is hanging up his boots.

He posted on Instagram (28 May): “Throughout my career, I’ve experienced some very special moments, but the time has come to officially retire from professional football.

“There are not enough words to express the gratitude I have for my family, all the clubs that gave me the opportunity and to the fans for their support and love. Thank you.

“It has been, an honour and a privilege to share my career with all of you.”

Former West Brom duo Youssouf Mulumbu, who played with him during his loan spell, and Kieran Gibbs, who was Vela’s teammate at Arsenal, reacted to the post with

West Brom need more impact players like Vela

Despite Vela’s short stay at West Brom, he made a big impact on the fanbase.

His appearances from the bench were vital as both of his goals had an impact on the result.

This is what West Brom are currently lacking and this needs to be addressed in the upcoming transfer window.

If the Baggies can sign someone who will come off the bench and score goals, they will start turning their draws into victories.

This could end up being the difference between Premier League and Championship football next season. Hopefully, the incoming manager will address this issues.
