Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Share Exciting Secret Ahead of Wrexham ‘Champions League’ Promotion

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham won promotion on Saturday and are apparently set to be playing in Europe next season, according to the hilarious mistake of a First Minister.

Wrexham earned promotion to the second tier of English football on April 26 for the first time since the 1980s.

The Red Dragons have been outside of the top two divisions for 43 years but are now gearing up for a debut campaign in the Championship.

Wrexham will finish in the top half, according to former Birmingham City player turned pundit, Troy Deeney.

He is not the only one expecting Phil Parkinson’s side to perform to a high level in 2025/26.

Sam Parkin made his Wrexham Championship prediction shortly after the Charlton Athletic tie, also backing a top-half place.

Wrexham given hilarious ‘Champions League’ promotion by First Minister

Meanwhile, without even kicking a ball or finishing off their League One season, Wrexham have earned themselves a Champions League place.

That is, at least, according to First Minister Eluned Morgan, who made a hilarious blunder this week.

Morgan was addressing the club’s promotion and accidentally congrulated them on reaching the Champions League, rather than the Championship.

As per Wrexham.com, she said: “Before we start, Lesley, I want to congratulate you, as the number one fan of Wrexham, on the phenomenal advance of Wrexham football club to the Champions League.

“It really is quite an achievement—the third promotion in a row. They’ve made history. These are very exciting times for them, so, huge congratulations to them.”

Rob McElhenney has Champions League goal for Wrexham

While Wrexham obviously aren’t in the Champions League right now, competing in Europe at some point in the future is by no means out of the question.

It would take at least two more full seasons – promotion from the Championship then a top-four/five finish in the 2026/27 Premier League – before the Red Dragons could play in Europe’s premier competition.

That is also pretty unlikely to happen, but Rob McElhenney has a Champions League goal for Wrexham already.

Speaking last year to Prince William, he said: “Our ultimate goal is to build a sustainable model that will allow us to not only get to the Premier League, but sustain in the Premier League and eventually win the Premier League and be in the Champions League.”
