Exclusive: ‘Wrexham Explore Jamie Vardy Deal With Big Offer

Wrexham are planning to explore a deal to sign Jamie Vardy this summer after his impending departure from Leicester City was confirmed.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 38-year-old would be the ideal fit for Wrexham.
A Premier League and FA Cup winner who has scored 143 Premier League goals in 339 appearances is exactly the type of high-profile name Wrexham are eyeing.
Following their promotion to the Championship, the Red Dragons will be prepared to offer “big wages” to attract players during the summer window.
Leicester made the decision to part ways with Vardy after a difficult season in the Premier League, as Brown explained they were waiting for the right time to move on.
While his goals have dried up at the top level, having scored seven in 32 league starts at a rate of 369 minutes per goal this season, there is still a belief he can perform in the Championship.
Wrexham to rival Wolves in Jamie Vardy chase
Wrexham are not the only side interested in the Leicester legend, after Football Insider revealed Wolves are plotting a move to sign Vardy this summer.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted a move to the Welsh club could be the ideal opportunity for both parties.
“It wouldn’t surprise me to see Wrexham make a move for Jamie Vardy,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s a move they’ll definitely be interested in because he’s a high-profile player and he’s going to be available on a free transfer.
“In the past, they’ve paid out big wages to tempt players to make the move, and that’s something I expect they will be prepared to do again.
“Vardy has been a top player for Leicester, but they’ve made the decision to let him go.
“It’s always about picking the right time to part ways, and they felt that time had come.
“The bottom line is, he wasn’t scoring goals in the Premier League.
“Wrexham have a certain way of playing, they like to get the ball in the box and that’s exactly the type of player Vardy is now.
“He won’t be asked to drop deep and link play on the half-way line, they’ll use him as a goalscorer.
“So it’s a move that could suit both parties, and I’m sure it’s one they will be looking in to.”
Russell Martin in pole position to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy
With Vardy set to leave Leicester, there are still big decisions to be made, and Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to be sacked before the off-season.
Brown told Football Insider that former Southampton boss Russell Martin is now in pole position for the Leicester job after guiding the Saints to promotion in 2024.
A number of contenders are being considered for the role, but the 39-year-old’s recent achievement of taking Southampton to promotion is seen as a valuable asset.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 7 April that Van Instep riot will be sacked by Leicester after a disastrous season since his appointment.
