Tottenham player faked a six-week injury on a six-figure salary: Strict actions to follow

Former Tottenham centre-back Ryan Nelson has revealed that one of his former Spurs teammates once faked an injury to avoid playing for around six weeks at the business end of the campaign.

Spurs fans have gotten used to losing key players to long-term injuries over the last two seasons, with many supporters being left frustrated by the lack of clarity from the club on the fitness of some players.

At different times this season, Ange Postecoglou has explained that he has chosen to remain cautious with the rehabilitation of some players even though the players themselves are keen to get onto the pitch.

However, a former Spurs man has now suggested that there was an occasion back in 2012 when a player himself faked an injury as he did not want to play.

Ryan Nelson reveals shocking incident at Tottenham

Nelson only spent six months at Tottenham, making just 5 appearances in total for the North London club during the second half of the 2011-12 season.

Spurs were still in the title race at the point when Nelson arrived from Blackburn in January, and the former New Zealand international has now revealed that one of his teammates faked an injury after getting into an argument with manager Harry Redknapp.

Nelson told The Footy Prime Podcast: “That happens (players faking injuries). I mean, I can tell you stories in saying that. I can tell you stories at Tottenham when I was there, that certain players in the locker room, high, high-profile players decided to have a back injury for six weeks because the manager said the wrong thing to them in a team talk.

“I won’t say who it is, he was on six figures a week and decided to have a back injury for six weeks. Well, when we’re like second in the league, third in the league. It does happen, it’s the world you live in.”

That Tottenham squad had a few prickly characters, which is why it is difficult to speculate on who Nelson might be referring to in this instance.
