Just In: Piers Morgan slams Mikel Arteta over ‘inexplicable blind spot’ after Arsenal transfer decision.
Piers Morgan made a late plea to see Arsenal add a striker in the final hours of deadline day but that fell on deaf ears as Mikel Arteta opted to stick with his options in the final third
Piers Morgan was furious with Mikel Arteta for not adding a striker on deadline day – claiming he has an “inexplicable blind spot” that is holding Arsenal back.
The Gunners failed to bring in any firepower which means they’ll have to work with what they’ve got until the end of the season. The lack of a striker has been cited as a major problem for the north London outfit, despite them again sitting near the top.
Arteta has largely played without a striker with Kai Havertz operating as a false 9. That has cost the team at times as they try to avoid another season without a trophy under Arteta. The last time they landed silverware was back in 2020 when they landed the FA Cup.
Arsenal’s striker options were further reduced when Gabriel Jesus was ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. The Gunners are already out of the FA Cup, face an uphill battle in the Carabao Cup and trail Liverpool by a number of points as Morgan fears another missed opportunity.
Morgan said on Monday night: “I can’t believe Arsenal have still not signed a top striker in this window. It’s Arteta’s ongoing inexplicable blind spot and will stop us winning big trophies. Do something, Mikel!”
Havertz is currently the team’s top scorer, notching 15 times in all competitions, but only nine teams in the league. It means no Arsenal players has yet hit double figures in the Premier League. Liverpool meanwhile have Mohamed Salah sat on 21 goals this term
The gunners have been linked with the likes of Alexander Isak, but getting major deals over the line midway through the season can prove difficult and Arsenal haven’t been able to add to their squad despite a desire
to do so.
