Inter Miami’s Concacaf Champions Cup roster missing two key names as Mascherano includes multiple new signings

Inter Miami and Javier Mascherano have been busy during the offseason to bring in new faces but two key names are missing from their Concacaf Champions Cup roster.

Both Segovia and Allende have been involved in Inter Miami’s pre-season, where Mascherano is currently unbeaten in draws against Club America and Universitario.

While the new season will see Inter Miami host New York City FC in their opening game, they have been drawn against Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions Cup first round.

With Segovia and Allende both being integrated into the squad already it is perhaps no surprise that both are included in the squad for the Sporting KC tie.

However, two other new names have not been included.

Inter Miami’s defensive signing of Gonzalo Lujan is missing and centre-back Maxi Falcon, who is still yet to be unveiled by the team has also been left out.

Falcon reportedly agreed on a deal with Inter Miami from Colo-Colo, but he is yet to be seen around the MLS club.

How Inter Miami performed last year

Last season saw Inter Miami put straight into the last 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup in their debut season of the tournament.

The Herons earned a 5-3 aggregate win over fellow MLS side Nashville SC which saw Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez score two goals each across the two legs.

A tough Monterrey side would however knock the Herons out of the quarter-finals in a comfortable 5-2 aggregate win.

Both Messi and new manager Mascherano will be looking to progress further in the tournament this season, but they will have to get past Sporting KC.
