Kaizer Chiefs’ board have been under pressure to sign new attackers and they might just be delivering on that brief. Let’s have a look.
Kaizer Chiefs’ new attacking stars
Makabi Glody Lilepo is a 27-year-old Congolese striker who’s most comfortable operating in the wide right channel. Under the legendary Florent Ibenge, Lilepo bagged five goals in 10 Caf Champions League outings although Lilepo’s move to France’s Ligue 1 resulted in relegation in his first campaign there.
Valenciennes will do business with offers in the region of €500,00 or R9.6 million. Lilepo has seven goals and five assists in 46 games across all competitions for his current employers and a single goal from 11 caps for DR Congo. The player has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Chiefs, while third-tier French outfit Valenciennes face financial difficulties and pressure to sell their assets.
Lilepo’s journey
Makabi Glody Lilepo has played his club football in all sorts of interesting locations. Born in Kinshasa, Lilepo started with AS Vita Club in his home country. The next stop was Mbabane Swallows in Eswatini after which he returned to AS Vita Club and bounced between spells with them and FC Renaissance in DR Congo. Next up was Al-Hilal in Sudan. His first move outside of Africa came in September 2023 when he swapped North Africa for Northern France, a move valued at €478k (R9.2 million).
Naledi Hlongwane moves up from the DDC side
Chiefs have reportedly handed a three-year contract to teenage DDC striker Naledi Hlongwane. In an interview after his goal-scoring heroics for the All Stars side in the Carling Black Label Cup in December, Hlongwane gave some props to Mfudo Vilakazi, another player who’s come through the Naturena ranks. Aside from the great humility this shows, he’s also clearly a guy who thrives on pressure and big-match environments.
”It’s a good experience for me, as a teenager. All I can say is that I am letting everything be controlled by God. Mfundo, I can say I got used to training with him in the DDC before he was promoted to the first team,” said Hlongwane.

Jersey number already allocated to Hlongwane
“What I can tell you now is that the promotion process is as good as done. They have already allocated jersey number 35 to him and he travelled with the team to Durban for the game against Sekhukhune United. He was supposed to have played the game but they changed their mind at the last minute,” the SL source stated on SoccerLaduma.
“Yes, coming to the contract, it’s an initial three-year senior team contract and it will run until June 2028. So, yes, things are working out for the youngsters at Chiefs right now,” he added.
Veteran Morris arrives
According to KickOff, Tashreeq Morris’s deal with Chiefs is signed and sealed. Former Chiefs boss Gavin Hunt has confirmed it. 30-year-old Morris arrived at SuperSport in October to replace Bradley Grobler who sustained an unfortunate long-term injury. Morris, formerly of Cape Town City, was a free agent after leaving Sekhukhune before being snapped up by Matsatsantsa. He picked up a red card in his final game for SuperSport so will be suspended for his first two Chiefs matches. That is if he passes a customary medical.
