Just In:Chiefs reveal how they will deal with ‘mental problems’ vs Free Agents

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Youssef Ben Khalil believes they have done all necessary preparations to ensure the Glamour Boys stand a chance of getting past Free Agents this weekend.

Amakhosi were paired against the third-tier team in the Nedbank Cup’s Round of 32. Despite the Premier Soccer League outfit coming into the game as favourites, the tactician insists surprises do happen and his team can suffer a shock loss like it happened in the last edition.

In the previous edition, the Soweto giants were eliminated by Milford FC and went on to finish the PSL season in the 10th position. The Nedbank Cup is the only realistic chance for Chiefs to end their 10-year trophyless run.

If Free Agents win, it means everything for them

“To be honest with you this problem is not only with Kaizer Chiefs. It happens always when a team from a lower division plays a team from the first division, they struggle, they have a lot of problems,” he said in a pre-match interview.

“Like I said, it’s a mental problem because this team does not have pressure. If they win the game, it means everything to them, if they lose, no one can blame them for losing the game, because there is a difference between the level.

“I know, we have a lot of problems when we play against teams from lower divisions. We discussed a lot, and we had individual meetings with our players. We make; we discuss a lot with them to prepare themselves.”

‘We tried our best’

“I know, we have a lot of problems when we play against teams from lower division,” Ben Khalil continued.

“We discussed a lot, and we had individual meetings with our players. We make; we discuss a lot with them to prepare themselves. They have to prepare themselves mentally about this game. History yes, I know that there were a lot of situations in the last season, it was we lost against a team from a lower division.

We tried to do our best to prepare our player mentally to be ready for this game,”he concluded.

In the absence of the suspended Nasreddine Nabi, Ben Khalil will be on the touchline.
