It’s a blast: Tottenham confirms interest and bid sent for late transfer rush

Exclusive: Tottenham recruitment team pushing for ‘very strange’ late signing

Tottenham are pushing to sign a new forward before the transfer deadline on 3 February, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke confessed that the recruitment team’s late-window targets seem “very strange” given their defensive problems and ongoing injury crisis.

Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are all currently sidelined, while Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin have also missed games in recent weeks.

Those injuries have forced 18-year-old Archie Gray, naturally a central midfielder, to fill in as a makeshift centre-back, such is the shortage of numbers in that position.

However, Spurs are continuing to push for the signing of a new forward after Ange Postecoglou called for a new player who can support Dominic Solanke up top.

A new centre-back is also on their radar, but appears to rank lower on the list of priorities.

Tottenham plot shocking late January move after new twist

Tottenham’s transfer team have been working hard on new signings this month despite their apparent lack of activity, with a busy end to the window expected.

A shortlist of potential new signings has been drawn up, with new wingers and centre-forwards on their radar as they ideally want to sign somebody capable of playing both positions.

PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani had been an option after he was made available, but Juventus have now emerged as his most likely destination.

Now, Tottenham will have to move their focus elsewhere in their pursuit of new options to strengthen the depth in Postecoglou’s side.

While a new forward has emerged as the priority as things stand, sources say a deal for a new centre-back remains one of Spurs’ goals and should be expected before 3 February.
