Shopping Spree in the NCAA : USC and Clemson Continue to Strengthen Rosters

South Carolina and Clemson Continue Aggressive Pursuits in the Transfer Portal

South Carolina is making waves in the NCAA transfer portal, adding new talent across key positions. On January 11, the Gamecocks secured a commitment from defensive tackle Davonte Miles (6-5, 275) from Bowling Green. Miles, who previously visited Mississippi State and Illinois, has made his mark with 27 tackles during his time at Bowling Green. With this addition, South Carolina now has four defensive tackles among their 2025 class, which includes 12 transfer players.

In addition to strengthening their defensive line, the Gamecocks also bolstered their linebacker corps with Alabama transfer Justin Okoronkwo (6-3, 225). Okoronkwo, a native of Munich, Germany, appeared in eight games for Alabama and will add depth to South Carolina’s linebacker group. The team also recently welcomed running back Rahsul Faison (5-11, 200) from Utah State, who rushed for over 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023. Offensive line was another key focus, with South Carolina landing Troy transfer Boaz Stanley (6-4, 310), who is expected to contribute immediately.

Clemson is similarly making moves in the portal, securing edge rusher Jeremiah Alexander (6-2, 249) from Alabama. Despite limited playing time with the Crimson Tide, Alexander was a highly regarded recruit and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Clemson also made significant headway in the offensive line, with Grant Wise (6-3, 310) from Milton, Florida, continuing to explore the Tigers as a potential destination.

In addition to transfer portal activity, Clemson and South Carolina are also recruiting in-state talent. Clemson has been heavily pursuing OT Zyon Guiles (6-5, 290) of Carvers Bay, who is considering multiple schools. South Carolina has also shown strong interest, with both teams making regular visits to Guiles.

As both teams continue to address their roster needs through the portal, it’s clear that both South Carolina and Clemson are working to position themselves for future success with a mix of seasoned transfers and top-tier recruits.
