BREAKING : Bruins Quickly Joins Trade Talks Over Canucks Superstar
It’s time to start mentioning the Boston Bruins in any trade rumors and speculation involving Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, according to Marco D’Amico of RG.org. “The Boston Bruins are one of a few teams expected to pursue one of the reportedly feuding players if the Vancouver Canucks are indeed willing to trade either of centers J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson,” D’Amico said in a recent story.
This week, there has been a lot of speculation about the trade rumors involving both Canucks’ best players. Vancouver’s willingness to trade either player is unknown. However, the team is accepting offers and is considering shipping one or both out in a blockbuster trade, according to multiple insiders.
According to an NHL executive source, “they’re talking to them” about the Bruins’ interest. When asked if the Bruins are more interested in Miller or Pettersson, the same insider said:
“I don’t know who for sure, but I know the Bruins want to get deeper and younger up the middle and not older. That seems like Pettersson, but it’s not about who they want; it’s about who the Canucks decide to move on from.”
To be honest, a second NHL insider wasn’t sure how much of this claim was true. According to one insider, “I just don’t think the Bruins are positioned well, cap-wise and roster-wise, to make a trade like this.” “They can only accomplish it by making a hole to fill a hole.”
In such trade, who would the Boston Bruins be willing to move?
The key is what the other team is prepared to offer the Canucks in exchange, much like each other team testing the waters on a possible deal with Vancouver. It will be difficult for the Bruins to get either. According to reports, the Canucks are looking for a first-round selection, a top prospect, or a center or defenseman ranked in the top six or four. On Wednesday, Rick Dhaliwal said, “Think of it as a Jack Eichel-like package.”
Although Bruins forward Trent Frederic has been brought up in trade negotiations, sources indicate the Canucks would need more, possibly in addition to Frederic or Pavel Zacha, such as Mason Lohrei or Matt Poitras.
