6 immediate changes at West Ham Graham Potter did after been announced West Ham new Boss

‘Wow’ – ExWHUEmployee blown away by what Potter’s already done at West Ham

Graham Potter is already coming across as an articulate manager who couldn’t come across “any better” at West Ham United, ExWHUEmployee has said.

The Hammers insider posted on X (9 January) in reaction to Potter’s first interview since being appointed as Julen Lopetegui’s successor at the London Stadium, following talks throughout the week.

Potter was hired within hours of Lopetegui finally being shown the door just 22 matches into his reign, having agreed a two-and-a-half year deal as opposed to the Irons’ initial offer of six months.

ExWHUEmployee said: “Wow I’ve got to say I don’t think Potter could have came across any better in that interview!!

“Agree with everything he said and like the way he talks and articulates things already! I feel even more excited!”

With Lopetegui’s long-overdue departure – despite only being in the job since last May – finally confirmed on Wednesday, Potter provides a clean slate for the Hammers after their initial misstep.

Pitched as a natural successor to build on the foundations laid by David Moyes, Lopetegui’s tenure did anything but, with the Irons still shipping goals at will and offering little at the other end of the pitch.

The fact that the Spaniard clung on for so long is an indictment on a boardroom who couldn’t align on a succession plan for months [Foot Mercato, 8 December], before finally landing on Potter as the man to take them forward.

Potter’s reputation may have taken a blow at Chelsea in his first foray into the management of a ‘big club’, but he’ll have a very talented, expensively-assembled squad at his disposal in claret and blue.

Lopetegui’s continued inability to get the best out of a side which had over £120million spent on it last summer ultimately cost him his job, but Irons fans will be confident that Potter can finally make them tick.
