Celtics Hero’s response to Gary Lineker’s question about working with Ange Postecoglou at Celtic

Celtic fans look back with fondness when they talk about the Ange Postecoglou era.

As Tottenham fans are finding out right now, whatever happens, there is one thing you are guaranteed and that’s entertainment of the highest order.

In the colours of Celtic, and it needs to be noted that Postecoglou took charge during a difficult time, he delivered trophy after trophy.

Added to that, he did it in a way that, perhaps, hasn’t been matched before, in terms of style of play and how he presented himself to fans and the media.

That makes Postecoglou a Celtic hero, but that same feeling isn’t being felt right now as he continues his Premier League journey.

Postecoglou is under pressure at Tottenham, you wonder how or why when he is managing a side that has never won the European Cup/Champions League, last won the league title in 1960 and hasn’t won a trophy since 2008.

But that’s false and overhyped expectations for you on certain clubs in English football!

Celtic hero Joe Hart tells Tottenham players to take ‘harsh criticism’

Postecoglou is used to winning trophies, but now he has joined a team that isn’t used to that, so everything is proving to be more difficult.

Ironically enough, Hart was signed by Postecoglou from Tottenham and he proceeded to end his career in the perfect manner by helping Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup final last season.

Hart knows more than anyone else what it’s like working with Ange and he told Match of the Day what his old boss is like behind the scenes.

“How will Ange be handling this,” asked Gary Lineker about Tottenham’s struggles. “You know him. You played for him at Celtic.”

Hart responded: “Yeah, it’s a difficult moment as a team. Ange requires as a team for everyone to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

“He will be analytical. The meetings, pre and post-match are very important in the way he works with his team. He doesn’t necessarily want to sit down and have conversations. But the pre and post are so important. There will be the dreaded ring going around you when things are going wrong in those meeting rooms, so the Spurs players have to take it on the chin. They have to take some harsh criticism. But ultimately, he will want to play them purring. Play the good football he knows they are capable of, but just more consistently.”

Tottenham need to change, not Postecoglou, as ex-Celtic boss comes out fighting

Tottenham have previously had two trophy-winning managers in the dugout – Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Both of them left empty-handed. They all can’t be wrong and perhaps Spurs need to look at themselves and change, rather than those in the dugout.

Either way, Postecoglou has rightfully come out fighting after Spurs were beaten by Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, as he told Sky Sports News.

“I get where people look at my situation and probably think ‘jheez, he needs to do something, or else, he’s in trouble’,” said Postecoglou.

“But I don’t think that way. It’s not how and why. I’m not sort of concerned about that aspect of this role. What excites me about this role and what I love doing about what I do is the possibility that you can create something special. And that’s what I am going to try to do.

“It’s not what motivates me or drives me. My motivation to do what I do is to try and create teams that win things and have success, make an impact and that doesn’t really change. It doesn’t add any pressure or I don’t feel any extra anxiety about anything. I firmly believe we will get through this and come out stronger. We will create the team we want to be.”
