It’s a Rap West Ham to Land Spanish Attacker For £50m in January
West Ham United are seemingly very keen to bolster their attacking options in the summer.
Julen Lopetegui is in big trouble right now, and could be sacked from his role as West Ham head coach if results don’t improve quickly.
The Hammers have been in awful form this season, and the performances have been horrendous to say the least.
Lopetegui has seriously underperformed at the London Stadium.
He should have signed an attacker with blistering pace in the summer, but he and Tim Steidten failed to make it happen.
Now the Hammers are apparently eyeing up attacking reinforcements in January.
However, out latest target is far from inspiring in my opinion.
West Ham ramp up attempts to sign Brais Mendez in January
From CaughtOffside, West Ham have scouted Brais Mendez during Real Sociedad’s last three games.
The 27-year-old has a whopping £50 million release clause inserted into his contract with the La Liga outfit.
So is he worth anything like that kind of money.
He has bagged three goals and three assists in 22 games for Sociedad this season.
His career stats aren’t actually that impressive for a forward – he has just 52 goals and 38 assists in 341 outings (Transfermarkt).
Mendez – a four-capped Spain international – is a number 10 by trade, but he can operate out wide on the right as well.
He is a decent player, has impressive pace and is a good dribbler.
However, I just cannot get behind spending anything like £50 million on a 27-year-old who has registered such poor numbers throughout his career.
West Ham should avoid a move to sign Brais Mendez in the January window in my opinion.
There is plenty of better value to be had out there.
