Bafana star gives kaizer cheifs credit for his current success
Bafana star: I wouldn’t be where I am today without Kaizer Chiefs
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana recently racked up the awards in the Romanian top flight.
Ngezana left Chiefs two seasons ago now, being sold to Romanian giants FCSB in what came as a shock move.
Ngezana left Chiefs two seasons ago
The tough as nails defender had been a divisive figure among the Chiefs fan base. Some appreciated his endeavour and dedication, while others didn’t think he was good enough for the club. In the last half of his last season as an Amakhosi player, Ngezana started growing in leaps and bounds. He became a rock at the heart of their defence and just when the faithful were looking forward to seeing more growth, he left.
Despite a slow start to life in Romania, Ngezana went from near flop to one of the best players in the league. In fact, barely six months into the chapter at FCSB, he was already being linked with moves to France and Turkey. He was making team of the week selections on a regular basis as well. In the end all of that resulted in two big awards.
Credits Amakhosi for his current success
Ngezana went on to win Defender of the Year as well as Foreign Player of the Year in the Romania. Following that success, he has given credit to his former side Chiefs.
“Kaizer Chiefs played a big role in my life, on and off the field. I wouldn’t have been the person that I am today if it wasn’t for Kaizer Chiefs. The opportunity that I got, if it wasn’t for Chiefs I wouldn’t be in Romania. I don’t think I’ve been here. And apart from that, throughout my career at Chiefs, in terms of facing some of the things. playing for Kaizer Chiefs was one of my dreams and it came true.” Said Ngezana to iDiski Times.
Ngezana also believes his ability to adapt at FCSB was due to lessons from the Chiefs structures.
Now also a Bafana regular
“I’m always going to be grateful for that opportunity. And, they built me a lot like they built me the person that I am today, in terms of character. I think if it wasn’t for Chiefs, I don’t think I could have made it, or I could have been the strong person that I am today.” Ngezana concluded.
