“I want Him”: Pep Guardiola wants TOTTENHAM player who was outstanding in City 2-1 loss to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur were able to eliminate Manchester City from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory in north London.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are looking to end their 16-year trophy drought this season and now face a quarter final clash against Manchester United.

Beating City in north London is something which Tottenham have become accustomed to since moving back into their N17 home.

Timo Werner opened the scoring before Pape Matar Sarr’s goal left Erling Haaland speechless as he curled the ball home from around 25 yards out.

But it was not just Haaland who was left impressed by Spurs with his manager, Pep Guardiola, also hailing the Lilywhites after the game.

What Pep Guardiola said Tottenham did so well vs Man City

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Guardiola admitted Tottenham’s pace has really impressed him under Postecoglou’s reign.

“An incredible top side they are so fast and I am really pleased. We play so good. If you play a game that quick they attack quicker, we played really good,” he said.

Of course, in the second half there was transitions they could have finished the game – I know perfectly how good we played.”

But it was not all positive for Tottenham on Wednesday with Micky van de Ven coming off through injury and Postecoglou admitting Cristian Romero felt some tightness as he was also withdrawn.

Pep Guardiola’s record at Man City against Tottenham

For a side which has struggled to get their hands on silverware over the last couple of decades, Spurs really have caused Guardiola some serious headaches.

To call Tottenham one of City’s bogey teams is probably slightly unfair given Spurs are regular top six finishers.

However, the Lilywhites do hold a strong record against the manager who has dominated since he has arrived in English football.
