Improve or Leave : Danny Rohl sends clear message to three players

Injury issues are beginning to mount up at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday’s options in attack have taken a hit as they continue to navigate a whirlwind period of the fixture schedule, with talented wide man Olaf Kobacki set for an extended spell out of contention. The youngster, who signed for the Owls from Polish outfit Arka Gdynia in the summer, suffered a muscle injury in training earlier this week.

Kobacki was a notable absence from the matchday squad as Wednesday came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Fratton Park on Friday evening. It was a night that saw in-form man Akin Famewo hobble out of the fixture, with Owls boss Danny Röhl admitting he was fearful the defender had suffered a ‘big, big’ injury – though scans undertaken in the coming days will tell them more.

On Kobacki, Röhl told The Star: “It looks like a big one, it could be six or eight at the moment. With a muscle injury you never know, it takes time and with a muscle injury you take a scan, you look at how it goes with the treatments. It’s a shame, but it’s time for others to take the opportunity and step up.”

Youngster Kobacki has made an impression for his hard-working performances in the early stages of his maiden season in English football, making 10 appearances including four Championship starts. With so many matches coming thick and fast, Wednesday will look to continue to rotate their squad and keep a close eye on the condition of their players.
