Joining West Ham contributed in my divorce: West Ham player reveals

I had a full-blown argument with my wife when I told her I was leaving Newcastle for West Ham

Kevin Nolan had a ‘full-blown argument’ with his wife after informing her he was leaving Newcastle United for West Ham.

Nolan had been in talks about extending his two-and-a-half year stay at St James’ Park back in 2011. However, after suffering an ankle injury in the final weeks of his best ever goal scoring campaign in the Premier League, Nolan revealed that owner Mike Ashley ‘took the deal off the table’.

Nolan’s family were settled on Tyneside, but the former Newcastle captain was prepared to drop down to the Championship to reunite with Sam Allardyce because he thought it was the time to ‘prove these people wrong’. There was just the small matter of informing his wife, Hayley, while the pair were on holiday with their kids and team-mate Steve Harper’s family in Dubai.

“I had been with her since I was 14,” he told West Ham Fan TV. “My wife had moved with me from Liverpool to Newcastle. I just went, ‘By the way, ‘I’ve signed for Newcastle. I’ll see you in a couple of days’ and drove up to Newcastle.

“It took her three months to find a house up there. We found a house, got settled and we’re in Dubai. I’ve now got a phone call saying, ‘Will you come to West Ham?’

“I haven’t even gone, ‘What do you reckon about West Ham, love?’ I’ve just said, ‘Sound, yeah, I’m coming.’

“Then I’ve got off the phone and she’s gone to me, ‘What was that about?’ I’ve gone, ‘I’m just about to sign for West Ham’. She said, ‘You’re not!’

“Now me and her are having a full-blown argument in Dubai in front of Harps, his missus and our kids and my daughter’s gone, ‘Daddy, but I like it in Newcastle.’ I’m going, ‘Well, you’re going to have to like it in London now.'”

West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus has endured somewhat of a difficult start to the season.

And yet he remains one of our very best, dangerous and most important players.

Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £38 million.

The Ghanian star actually fell out with Julen Lopetegui two weeks ago, and the Hammers head coach hauled him off at half-time during our 1-1 draw with Brentford.

However, the West Ham owners apparently immediately contacted Kudus’s representatives after the incident, in order to explain to them that everything was fine between the player and manager.

It really has been a very eventful last few weeks for Kudus. He’s currently away on international duty with Ghana, but we are only concerned about how he plays for West Ham.

And the Hammers have seemingly just been handed a big blow when it comes to the 24-year-old forward.

Bad news for West Ham as Mohammed Kudus claim comes to light

The Ghanaian has been working hard to rediscover his best form for the Hammers this season.

He finally showed a glimpse of his true self last weekend during our 4-1 win over Ipswich, but he’s still a long way off the levels he reached last term.

Without a Kudus who is firing on all cylinders, it has been very hard for West Ham to be clinical inside the final third.

And now we’ve been dealt a really big blow.

That’s because Barcelona allegedly want to sign the former Ajax star in the summer of 2025, according to numerous reports out in Spain – when his £85 million release clause kicks in.

If Barca do really come in for the Ghanaian superstar, the Hammers will be powerless to prevent him from leaving the club unfortunately.

Keeping Kudus at West Ham an impossible task

The Ghana international is one of the most talented young attackers on the planet.

Everything about him screams a huge move to one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Kudus possesses pace and power in abundance, is a great finisher, and is one of the best dribblers in the world.

The fact that the Hammers actually signed him in the first place is still really hard to believe.

I have no doubts that he’ll go on to win the biggest trophies in the game, but hopefully he gives us one more exceptional season before he leaves.

When his £85 million release clause comes into effect again, it will be impossible for West Ham to keep Mohammed Kudus at the London Stadium.
