New Luton signing Victor Moses is looking right at home with the Hatters according to boss Rob Edwards.
The 33-year-old was a recent addition to the Town ranks having left Spartak Moscow in the summer after spending four years with the Russian Premier League side, also being abroad in Turkey and Italy since 2019, with spells at Fenerbahce and Inter Milan. He made a fine first impression with his new side when called upon during the 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, playing a part in the Hatters’ late winner, his pass perfect for Alfie Doughty to deliver a cross that eventually saw Carlton Morris find the net.
Moses was then on target himself on Friday night, with a first goal in English football since netting for Chelsea at Burnley in April 2018, chesting down Doughty’s deep ball into the area and lashing beyond Plymouth keeper Dan Grimshaw. It wasn’t enough to stave off defeat though, Town beaten 3-1 at Home Park, while he was then handed a first start during Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Oxford United at Kenilworth Road, getting his maiden 90 minutes for the club.
On the former Chelsea and Liverpool winger’s impact since arriving, Edwards said: “We’re really pleased how positive he was and how at home he has looked straight away. I think he’s happy in life. He’s back home with his family, seeing the family more. I had a good chat with him and he’s happy, content and he’s really enjoying it here which is great. I think Vic’s in a place where he can play for longer no doubt about it. We’re in the position now where he’s still in his pre-season really so everyone’s got to bear that in mind as well. But he’s made two good impacts in two games, so I think we can begin to build his minutes up.
Asked whether Moses can now go on and enjoy the same kind of influence that Ross Barkley had when Town were in the Premier League last term, the ex-Everton youngster a starring member of the Hatters team who couldn’t quite avoid relegation out of the top flight, Edwards continued: “They’re different people and completely different players, but we hope Victor can have a really big impact for us, and he’s already done that on his debut.
“It’s important not to expect exactly the same from Victor to what Ross delivered, but we’ve had a bit of a history of this, over the years and before we came. A (Robert) Snodgrass, or a (Henri) Lansbury, a Barkley, people who are really good players but have had excellent careers. The hunger’s there, something to prove still and can help us and that’s why we brought him to the club, we thought he could do that.”
Discussing his goal in Devon, the Luton chief added: “Brilliant finish, a great touch and finish from Vic. When we had that, you think, go on then, let’s go and the boys tried to create one or two opportunities, but we just weren’t clinical enough.”
