Tottenham makes Pedro Porro exit announcement; and on going plans for a right-back

Pedro Porro exit claim as Tottenham ready £25m+ bid for right-back

John Wenham doesn’t believe Tottenham will sign Monaco right-back Vanderson before the transfer deadline.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the Brazillian could be brought to the club if Pedro Porro were to move on.

As reported by L’Equipe (22 August), Tottenham are ready to submit a £25.4million bid to sign Vanderson.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the transfer makes any sense at this point.

“If we were looking to sign Vanderson, what does that mean for Djed Spence?” Wenham asked.

“I just can’t see this transfer happening if I am honest. I’m very happy with Porro as our starting right-back and Spence as the backup.

“However, perhaps Vanderson is part of a long-term list, and if Porro was to leave the club at any point, we would then move to sign him.”

Tottenham to sign Monaco right-back Vanderson?

A brand-new right-back doesn’t seem like a pressing concern for Ange Postecoglou right now. Therefore, it would be a surprise to see Vanderson move to North London before Friday 30 August.

Unless the club are planning for life without Porro, in which case a transfer would make sense. However, it seems even less likely that Porro will be going anywhere this week.

Tottenham should be looking to address other areas in their squad before the transfer window slams shut, with a brand-new number six a much more pressing concern.

Exclusive: Tottenham work on deadline-busting defender signing

Tottenham are prioritising a late-window deal for a centre-back, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs have turned attention to outgoings after spending big on Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray but are still planning signings before Friday’s (30 August) transfer deadline.

Ange Postecoglou and his transfer team have also identified centre-back as a key position where more depth is required in the 2024-25 campaign.

Joe Rodon and Eric Dier have departed permanently, while Ashley Phillips has secured another Championship loan with Stoke City.

Tottenham plot late-window move for more centre-back cover

Spurs currently have Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin as their first-team centre-back options.

Ben Davies can also play in the heart of the defence but is nothing more than an emergency backup for Postecoglou in the final year of his contract.

Tottenham have raised transfer funds through the sale of players like Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal and Rodon.

The Lilywhites need depth ahead of their return to continental football in the Europa League next month.

Postecoglou’s side have started the new season with four points from a possible six after beating Everton 4-0 on Saturday (24 August).
