Tottenham preparing bid for player after official scout report…

Tottenham have sent their scouts to watch £70m Brazilian from Premier League rivals

Tottenham Hotspur still are yet to only see Archie Gray come in on a permanent deal this summer in what has been a fairly slow start to the window.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side will be playing their second pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday afternoon ahead of their Asian tour.

Spurs will be jetting off for Japan next week and, as things stand, Postecoglou has only seen Daniel Levy make one signing whilst plenty of players have departed.

Gray has proven his versatility having played at centre-back on Wednesday night against Hearts.

But Spurs will surely be looking to find natural solutions to their problems given their much busier schedule coming up this season.

And it seems there is one player from the Premier League who Spurs – like other clubs – have their eyes on this summer.

Tottenham have scouted £70m Premier League player

Although Spurs have only done one piece of business this summer, it was a fairly big addition in landing one of England’s hottest young talents.

Spurs could be seen to have subsidised the deal with Leeds United by allowing Joe Rodon to go the opposite way in a separate deal.

The deal to see Gray sign was worth around £40m with the Wales international included.

But that could be gazumped if Spurs were to land one of their other targets from and English side.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham are one of the sides who have scouted Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo.

The Brazilian was the player who Forest viewed as their potential escape plan from last month’s PSR issues.

However, those concerns have been alleviated but Forest could still have their resolve tested before the end of the window.

Chelsea are another side to have shown their interest with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side valuing the 22-year-old up to £70m this summer.

Tottenham surely can’t spend £70m on a backup centre-back

Murillo enjoyed a really impressive 2023/24 campaign and former Spurs defender Michael Dawson has praised Murillo for his speed.

“He’s strong he’s quick, he takes the ball and he can certainly play out of the back. To settle in the way he has, credit to him. He’s slotted in and he’s been consistent,” said Dawson.

However, spending £70m on a player who is unlikely to even start ahead of Radu Dragusin does not make a huge deal of sense for Spurs.

The only way in which this deal could potentially work for Tottenham is if Cristian Romero was to be sold.

Romero has been linked with interest from Real Madrid but Spurs will be keen to keep ahold of their Copa America winner.
