Transfer Steal: Sheffield Wednesday target already getting huge interest from Seria A giants

Sheffield Wednesday are in the market for a new striker this summer. The Owls have been linked with a handful and are sure to have a number of potential targets on the radar.

One man said to have remained on the club’s list of possible striker additions is Duncan McGuire. He was heavily linked in January but he instead opted for Blackburn Rovers, only for that move to collapse.

He’s found form back with Orlando City, netting six goals and 16 MLS games. As a result, he’s set to represent the United States in this summer’s Paris Olympics.

And, it seems McGuire will have eyes on him over the course of the tournament.

Reports from Italian outlet Tuttosport state that the Sheffield Wednesday target is poised to be watched by Serie A side Torino during the Olympics as they weigh up a swoop for his services. They could move after the Olympics.

Out of reach?

Sheffield Wednesday may have maintained an interest in McGuire but with a top-flight Italian side seemingly weighing up a move for his services, it could be that they have to cross him off the list of targets.

Of course, there’s very attractive factors of a move to Hillsborough. The Owls are a sizeable club with a fantastic ground and loyal supporters, they’re also led by a top coach in Danny Rohl and are just one step below the Premier League.

However, Torino will almost certainly have more financial power than Wednesday. Furthermore, they would be able to offer McGuire a jump straight to top-flight football, rather than the second-tier.

It could make a McGuire deal a tough one to do, especially if he can catch the eye at the Olympics.

The search for a striker

It remains to be seen just who comes through the door at Hillsborough, but a new talisman is high up on the list of their transfer priorities ahead of the new campaign.

The Owls need to replace the goals of loan man Ike Ugbo, who has been linked with a permanent move.

In the event he can’t return though, others have been eyed. Arsenal prospect Mika Biereth has also been mentioned as a target following his successful loans with Motherwell and Austrian side Sturm Graz.

It remains to be seen just who Sheffield Wednesday zero in on, but as Torino plan to scout McGuire, it may well be that their interest puts him out of the Owls’ reach.
