Transfer destinations revealed for 2 Georgia men’s basketball players

The Georgia Bulldogs have seen quite a bit of change this offseason thanks in part to six players entering the transfer portal. On Monday, we learned where two of those former Bulldogs will be playing basketball in 2024-25. 

Point guard Justin Hill shared on social media that he has committed to Wichita State, and CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe has committed to Seattle.
Hill and Alexander-Moncrieffe are two of the four former Bulldogs who have announced their transfer destinations, the others being forward Jabri Abdur-Rahim (Providence) and forward Jalen DeLoach (Loyola).
With Hill and Alexander-Moncrieffe committed, there are two former Bulldogs who have yet to announce their transfer plans: forward RJ Melendez and forward Mari Jordan.Hill returned to Georgia for a second season in 2023-24 and was the backup point guard throughout his senior season. He played in 37 games with three starts and ended the season averaging 9.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He shot 37.9% from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range and averaged 24.0 minutes per contest.Hill hit the game-winning shot against Florida State on Nov. 29 to complete the Bulldogs’ 16-point comeback. He hit double-digit points in 17 different games, including in four of his last six games.

Hill was the backup point guard to fellow transfer Terry Roberts in 2022-23. Hill played in all 32 games that season and made 10 starts along the way, including seven in SEC play. He ended the season averaging 8.6 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. He hit the game-winning shot against LSU on Feb. 14 and ended the season on a tear by scoring in double figures in eight of the Bulldogs’ final 10 games.

Hill started his collegiate career at Longwood and averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists and shot 41 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range in 33 games during the 2021-22 season. The Lancers made the NCAA Tournament but lost to Tennessee in the first round in a game during which Hill had a team-high 13 points.

Hill put together a stellar freshman campaign which earned him Big South All-Freshman team honors. He posted 11.0 points and 4.2 assists per game, which left him ranked in the top two among players in the program’s Division I era.

Hill was also named Big South Freshman of the Week three times and finished the season second among freshmen in the conference in scoring and assists and third in rebounding.

Moncrieffe was relegated to a backup role in 2023-24 but managed to contribute where he could. He played in 16 games and made 4 starts, and he ended the season averaging 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He shot 26.3% from the field and averaged 8.6 minutes per contest.

Moncrieffe had a season-high 6 points against North Carolina Central back on Nov. 12. He logged multiple rebounds in seven games this season and had a season-high 6 rebounds against Winthrop on Nov. 24.

Moncrieffe came to Georgia from Oklahoma State, where he averaged 4.2 and 3.9 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game as a sophomore in 2021-22. He also shot 51 percent from the field.

Moncrieffe reclassified to the 2020 recruiting class in order to join Oklahoma State for the 2020-21 season. He averaged 9.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and shot 51 percent from the field as well.
