Sad Kentucky Basketball Fan Went Viral During Stunning 2024 NCAA Tournament Upset
March Madness is the perfect snapshot of the highest of highs and lowest of lows.
No. 14 seed Oakland shocked the college basketball world on Thursday night by upsetting No. 3 seed Kentucky – a team many fans predicted would make a run to the Sweet 16, at the very least. Jack Gohlke, the Golden Grizzlies’ newfound superstar, scored 32 points, 30 of which came from three-point land.
It was a memorable showing from an Oakland squad that fans were surprised to learn actually calls Michigan, not California, home. That’s the special nature of the NCAA Tournament. On any given night, a no-name diamond in the rough can put on a show and take down a team full of NBA players.

On the flip side, it’s a miserable experience to be a fan of that lower-seeded team only to have March Madness come to an end on day one. One Kentucky basketball fan in particular was having a tough time stomaching the loss.
This Kentucky basketball fan went viral amid the Wildcats’ shocking March Madness loss:
John Calipari, meanwhile, is now 1-4 in his last five March Madness games. Questions about his future in Lexington are starting to surface.
Calipari’s strategy of recruiting five-star players and forming inexperienced starting lineups clearly doesn’t work anymore. Top teams are built with experienced, tough players who can strap down defensively once the tournament arrives.
The Kentucky head coach admitted after the game he may have to adjust the strategy of how he builds his teams.
“I’ll look at other ways that we can do stuff, but, you know, there’s — this thing here, it’s a different animal,” Calipari said, via ESPN. “We’ve been able to help so many kids and win so many games and Final Fours, national titles and all this stuff, win league championships with young guys.
“It’s changed on us. All of a sudden it’s gotten really old. So we’re playing teams that our average age is 19, their average age is 24 and 25. So do I change because of that? Maybe add a couple older guys to supplement.”
It’s going to be a long offseason for Calipari, the Wildcats and that sad Kentucky basketball fan. \
