Milwaukee Brewers sign 19-year-old superstar to record $94 million Deal

Milwaukee Brewers sign 19-year-old Jackson Chourio to record $82 million Deal
NEW DELHI: Before making his debut in the major leagues, 19-year-old outfielder Jackson Chourio secured an extraordinary deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, finalizing an $82 million, eight-year contract. This landmark agreement is the highest amount guaranteed to a player with no prior big league experience.

There’s definitely a little bit of pressure on this, but I’m just going to work really hard,” Chourio expressed through a translator. He emphasized that the substantial contract wouldn’t change him, and any changes would be for the better.
This unprecedented deal surpasses the previous record for a player with no big league experience, excluding Japanese professionals. Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. held the previous record with a $50 million, six-year contract signed on Jan. 2, 2020, before his debut on July 24 of the same year.
Chourio, who has played only six games above Double-A, could potentially start the 2024 season in the major leagues. The contract covers his entire arbitration eligibility period and the potential first two seasons after free agency.
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating, “It’s not just about us. It’s about him as well and securing his future, partnering together with somebody that is really special.”

Wade Miley, a left-hander, also secured a contract with the Brewers, signing an $8.5 million, one-year deal with a 2025 mutual option that could be worth $24 million over two seasons. Miley’s deal includes performance bonuses, a limited no-trade provision, and a one-time assignment bonus if traded.
Chourio, considered one of baseball’s top prospects, has rapidly advanced through the Brewers’ farm system. Despite not turning 20 until March 11, he played six games for Triple-A Nashville late in the previous season and became the first player in Brewers history to be selected as the organization’s minor league player of the year twice.
Manager Pat Murphy playfully mentioned Chourio wearing a No. 11 jersey at the news conference, saying, “He’s always worn No. 94 in the thing. You want that No. 11, you’ve got to earn it.” Chourio’s impressive performance and potential have secured his future with the Brewers in a groundbreaking contract.
