Ange Postecoglou wants Tottenham Hotspur to aim as high as they can in the Premier League this season

Tottenham Hotspur have not been mentioned in the title race for a few months but a quirk of the calendar and a couple of wins could change that

Tottenham Hotspur has a chance to re-enter the title fight, even if it’s just for a short while, thanks to an oddity in the Premier League schedule this month.

Along with Aston Villa and Manchester United, Spurs have been the topic of the top four race, and Ange Postecoglou’s team’s impressive 4-0 victory at Villa Park on Sunday only served to heighten the conversation. The Tottenham head coach, nevertheless, doesn’t think his team should be constrained by predictions about their final Premier League standings.

The way the games unfold over the next several weeks might only support that opinion if Spurs are able to build on their significant victory against Unai Emery’s team and win a few games. This is due to Tottenham’s first weekend trip to Fulham, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Because Manchester City hosts Newcastle United on Saturday and Liverpool travels to Manchester United on the following day in the FA Cup quarterfinals, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are not playing in the Premier League this weekend. This weekend’s league match between Arsenal and Chelsea was rescheduled because Mauricio Pochettino’s team is hosting Leicester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Following the international break, Spurs will play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, March 30, against Luton Town, with a 3 p.m. kickoff.

All of that implies that Postecoglou’s team would trail leaders Arsenal by just five points the next day if they were to win all three of their games against Fulham and Luton. On that day, Liverpool hosts Brighton, and the Gunners visit to City. The same goes for Villa, who, if they win their next two games—at home against Wolves and away at West Ham—could go up to the top of the standings by just three points.

Tottenham will not necessarily win both of its next games, but if they do, they will still have games against City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, and they will undoubtedly be able to have their say on the title race.
