When Dejan Kulusevski found out that Tottenham Hotspur was interested in buying him during the January transfer window of 2022, he told his agency what he thought.
Dejan Kulusevski joined the Tottenham team a little more than two years ago, making him likely one of the team’s longest-serving members.
As Tottenham frantically attempted to add players in the last few days of the transfer season to improve Antonio Conte’s team in preparation for a top-four Premier League finish and, consequently, a trip back to the Champions League, the winger signed on an initial loan agreement.

Spurs fans may not have been particularly enthralled with the arrangement. With his familiarity of Juventus, it seemed like a move that was convenient for Fabio Paratici to make.
In the months before his relocation, Kulusevski had not had the finest time with the Old Lady. He had participated in the majority of Juventus’ Serie A matches during the first half of the campaign, but he was hardly ever getting to play for the entire 90 minutes.
And by the time the January window was about to close, it appears that he was prepared to go. When Kulusevski learned there was an opportunity to join Tottenham, he acted without hesitation, he told The Players’ Tribune.
“Can you find me something?” I asked my agent Ale one day, he remarked.
It was January 2022, a few days before the transfer window closed, and we were running out of time, so he said, “Yeah, it’s gonna be hard.” He did, however, phone me back and express interest from Tottenham.
“Yes!” was my response. We’re heading out. When is the upcoming flight?
“I hurried to my room and began packing after he told me it was leaving in an hour. Eldina, my girlfriend, and I were there when I started crying. Subsequently, her tears began. We were clueless as to why. Simply said, a lot was going on at once. We shared a kiss, shed some more tears, and I headed to the airport. I was not going to miss that flight.
An inspired signing
The deal has turned out to be a masterstroke, you have to admit. Kulusevski had a lot of energy in his early Spurs months. Since then, he has shown to be one of their most dependable and steady players.
The 23-year-old may not always garner as much media attention as other players. But when he’s playing for Tottenham, Kulusevski hardly lets the team down.
And considering his age, there’s a good chance he will get much better in the years to come.
