Miami Heat’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. Speaks On Infrequent Route To NBA

Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. took what is considered an untraditional route to the NBA.
Jaquez spent four seasons with the UCLA Bruins before declaring for the 2023 draft, where he was selected with the 18th overall selection. Nowadays, players usually go to college, play abroad, or play in the G League for a year. He thinks that in his brief time in the league, the unusual choice has paid off.
Indeed, there are certain benefits to remaining for four years. Well, I realize that’s not for everyone. Everybody has a different path. It’s not necessarily better or worse, in my opinion. However, there are undoubtedly certain benefits, Jaquez said to Anthony Pasciolla of Inside the Heat. “Trying to gain experience, understanding different roles going from a freshman to a senior, letting your game evolve.”
When he entered the league, Jaquez’s most advantageous traits were his post-play footwork, offensive patience, and veteran-like demeanor. Through 50 games, he has demonstrated these qualities, averaging 12.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 48.8 percent shooting. Alongside the Heat’s Big Three in key moments, the 23-year-old is a regular fixture.
His numerous seasons of expertise playing at one of the greatest levels in the world will help the Heat achieve their championship goals. Since 2020, they have advanced to the NBA Finals twice, and Jaquez wants to help the team overcome obstacles.
His choice may encourage more college basketball players to go this way rather than waiting a year before declaring.
