Pundit rubbishes ‘Excellent’ Tottenham player ‘Bandwagon’ after Wolves blunder

Paul Robinson has full confidence in Yves Bissouma despite a difficult game last time out and thinks Tottenham are starting to see the best of the “excellent” midfielder.

The Mali international had a hand in the 2-1 home defeat to Wolves and has been at fault for some high-profile errors this term, but the former England keeper has no thoughts about replacing him in the summer.

The Sky Sports pundit is delighted by the 27-year-old’s overall showing as part of a strong central midfield unit, and feels he is one who has come on leaps and bounds since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou from Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News Robinson said: “Listen, Bissouma’s been excellent this season. You can’t jump on a bandwagon after one game. He’s had one indifferent performance.

“I think him, [Pape Matar] Sarr and [Rodrigo] Bentancur have been excellent. And then you put [Oliver] Skipp into the mix there as well, who doesn’t always start but comes in and does a decent job. Is he the same level as the other three? No I don’t think he is.

“But as far as Bissouma’s concerned I think he’s only just started fulfilling the potential that we all knew that he had when he came from Brighton. Under [Antonio] Conte he wasn’t given an opportunity.

“But I think that him, like many others under Ange, with the way that they’re playing we’re starting to see the best of him.”

Ange Postecoglou unlocks Yves Bissouma at Tottenham after Antonio Conte struggles

You have to take the rough with the smooth with plenty of players and on the whole the regular Tottenham starting XI have shown outstanding signs under Postecoglou this term.

But just as the Australian can’t allow recent inconsistent form scupper everything he had built with a stunning early-season unbeaten run, his players can still improve too.

As with Cristian Romero the likes of Bissouma won’t always get the benefit of the doubt for negative moments on the basis of their overall quality if a target crops up in the transfer market who offers less of the former with the same or more of the latter, even if the manager currently doesn’t seem them as priorities to upgrade.

In other Tottenham news, a “hugely important” Spurs achievement has saved the club from the danger of a major blow suffered by a rival.
