Exclusive: Celtic plan to smash transfer record in ‘huge’ summer signing blitz
Football Insider has been informed by insiders that Celtic intends to shatter their club transfer record this summer during what is expected to be a hectic window.
Despite the club’s strong financial situation in recent years, the £9 million paid to Paris Saint-Germain for Odsonne Edouard in 2018 still stands as their record transfer.
As part of a significant summer signing spree, the Glasgow giants are rumored to have put aside a “huge sum” to secure a headline acquisition.
In recent years, Celtic supporters have been critical of the club’s board and recruitment squad, claiming that the organization lacks vision.
The Parkhead team reported £120 million in revenue during 2022–2023, with £40 million in profit and £67 million held in reserve at the bank.
Celtic plan to smash £9m transfer record this summer amid fan complaints
Celtic has barely spent £21 million on new players this season, despite the club’s profits. Last summer, they received almost £25 million for Jota from Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad.
Peter Lawwell, the chairman of Celtic, spoke about the club’s transfer activities this week at their annual general meeting.
“Shares the frustrations of supporters” over “less-than-anticipated activity in the recent transfer window,” according to Lawwell, the club’s board.
Celtic’s lack of transfer ambition seems to have affected the team’s performance, as archrivals Rangers have surpassed them to take the first spot in the league table.
