Chelsea to lose chance to cash in on Conor Gallagher as Tottenham eye ex-Man Utd ace again

Chelsea may have missed out on their chance to sell Conor Gallagher to Tottenham.

Conor Gallagher may not be available for sale to Chelsea this summer as Tottenham is rumored to have rekindled their interest in the former Manchester United sensation. At the conclusion of the season, when Gallagher will be approaching the last year of his contract, the Blues are heavily favoured to cash in on him.

Gallagher’s contract negotiations have not yet moved forward, so Chelsea must decide whether to trade him in the summer or take the chance of losing him for free the following season. Tottenham has apparently decided to take a different approach despite being linked to a possible bid for his signature recently.

James Garner, the playmaker for Everton, has surfaced as a potential replacement, per TEAMtalk, with Tottenham reportedly closely monitoring his progress. As per the report, a transfer is ‘in the works’ at the conclusion of the season, which is two years after Spurs lost out on signing him when United wanted to sell him.

Garner’s remarkable work ethic and versatility are thought to be two of his main advantages, which would make him a perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s playing style. Other Premier League teams are rumored to be considering signing him as well, thus Tottenham is not the only team interested in acquiring him.

Given Tottenham’s interest in Garner, Gallagher might not be given as much consideration in the summer when it comes to bolstering their midfield depth. The article does add, though, that should the Chelsea player not extend his contract with the Blues by then, a move for him might still be considered.

Garner, on the other hand, has performed admirably since joining Everton from United two years ago and has been a constant this season. He left for a comparatively low amount of about £15 million, but given his current form and his status as a homegrown player, he should fetch a lot more money should Everton decide to sell him in the summer.

Recently, Sean Dyche gave an explanation of why he has been so impressed with Garner this season, saying, “He had been injured when I came here. I was familiar with him from my previous season at Forest, where I frequently went to relax and catch a performance by him.

“It’s impressive how adaptable he is for a young athlete. Although I’ve always regarded him mostly in a leading position, I do appreciate his versatility. He is a player who knows how to make good use of that. He has worked extremely hard in the positions and has been very willing to use it for us. He is developing into what I believe to be a very fine football player.”
