Home coming: Heung-min Son explains his return to suprs.

Heung-min Son saw his South Korea side crash out of the Asian Cup last Tuesday, but that didn’t stop him from getting back to club duty with Tottenham at the weekend. Now, the Spurs skipper has explained why he was so eager to play against Brighton.

For the entire month of January and the first week of February, Tottenham was without their captain; nevertheless, on Saturday afternoon, Heung-min Son was back on the Spurs bench for the Premier League match against Brighton.

When there were thirty minutes remaining and the scores were tied at one, Ange Postecoglou sent Son onto the field. Brennan Johnson’s goal, assisted by Son, gave Spurs an injury-time lead as the match was coming to a close.

Postecoglou celebrated Son’s “world-class” qualities after the game and lauded his effect coming off the bench as the Lilywhites won all three games to reclaim their spot in the top four.

Son needs to play to erase Asian Cup pain

Son has now discussed his reasons for wanting to return so soon and how much he is enjoying playing for Spurs at the moment in an interview with The Standard.

“It is not nice talking about the tournament again,” he remarked. It is very difficult to accept, but that is the nature of football. Even though it aches a lot, playing football again on Saturdays will help me heal. Of course, I returned quickly to support the squad. I’d like to join the team. The outcome was excellent.

“At the end of the season, we’ll see. I just want to do everything in my power to support the team and enjoy playing for the manager and my teammates.” We don’t want to start talking about the future just yet, even though there are only a few months till the season ends.

“As I’ve always said, I want to give it my all, and together, we’ll see where it takes us. Though we can’t guarantee it, we’ll try our hardest to make it something memorable.

It’s wonderful to have Sonny back, and I have no doubt that he will be able to contribute significantly to Spurs in the last three months of the campaign. At the end of the campaign, maybe, he will have something to look forward to that would ease his suffering from the Asian Cup.
