Done Deal: Leicester City has reached agreement with outstanding player
Due to an injury concern with Alex Bangura, Middlesbrough signs Luke Thomas on loan from Leicester City.
Luke Thomas, a left-back on loan from Leicester City, is the third player Middlesbrough has signed during the January transfer window.
After Alex Bangura’s hamstring injury in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea turned out to be a serious one that could end his season, Boro found themselves unexpectedly in the market for a left-back during the last week or so. Thus, Lukas Engel required competition.
The 22-year-old Thomas played the first half of the Premier League season on loan at Sheffield United. However, since the arrival of former Boro manager Chris Wilder, he has made just 13 appearances and lost favor. the loan was terminated earlier this month with Sunderland credited with interest.
However, Boro is the team that acquired the wide player with an attack mentality. Michael Carrick expressed his excitement about adding Luke to the team. He is a valuable addition to the team, bringing a wealth of experience and a sense of balance to our current lineup. We’re eager to collaborate with him.
Thomas is only 22 years old, but he already has a lot of experience. The former member of the Foxes academy made 56 appearances in the top division for Leicester in addition to 13 appearances in European competitions, on top of his Sheffield United Premier League appearances. Although Thomas is reportedly out of contract in the summer, the loan arrangement isn’t thought to have a buyout clause.
For the time being at least, though, Boro required a short-term option that would last until the end of the season to cover for Bangura’s significant absence during the campaign, much like Luke Ayling’s arrival earlier in the summer. Arriving to compete with Engel for the attacking left-back position is Thomas.
