Nottingham Forest open talks to re-sign Keylor Navas
Nottingham Forest have opened talks to re-sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, sources have told Football Insider.
The 37-year-old thrived while on loan at Forest in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.
Navas returned to parent club PSG last summer but could now make a sensational return to the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of New Forest, is looking for a goalkeeper with more experience than Matt Turner, who is currently the best with the ball at his feet.
On Saturday, December 30, Turner made a well-publicized mistake that gave Marcus Rashford of Manchester United the opportunity to tie the score, but Morgan Gibbs-White’s late winner saved his blushes.
The summer transfer window saw the signing of the US international along with second choice Odysseas Vladodimos, who has similarly struggled to impress this season.
Resuming talks to get Navas back, Forest is optimistic that they can once more reach an agreement with PSG.
The Costa Rican international is ranked behind Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma in the rankings and has not yet made an appearance for the French powerhouses in the 2023–24 campaign.
He made 17 appearances for Forest in the previous season, helping them to survive in the Premier League despite giving up 32 goals and maintaining two clean sheets.
In his time at Real Madrid, the renowned goalie amassed 112 caps for his country and three Champions League medals.
Under new manager Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest has won their last two games and is currently ranked 15th in the Premier League standings.
They don’t play in the English Premier League until January 20 against Brentford.
