Giants QB Tommy DeVito gets vote of confidence from Eli Manning

With no sign of slowing down, the Tommy DeVito craze is in its fifteenth week, and quarterback Eli Manning, a former member of the New York Giants and two-time Super Bowl champion, is now officially on board.

Manning said, “Hey, they’re winning games,” to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. “Three straight games.” He is making progress.

The Giants great continued, “I think the most impressive thing, and I’ve talked to Tommy a little bit, is that he hasn’t turned the ball over.” “The easiest thing to do as a rookie quarterback is to make poor decisions and throw interceptions. Yet he’s not fumbling, he’s not making mistakes, and he’s not throwing it to the opposing team when you’re still learning the plays and defenses.

Although Manning acknowledged that DeVito was taking a lot of sacks in the beginning, he clarified that this was because DeVito was “not forcing the ball.” “Which is what you want to do,” I continued.

Manning said, “I think he’s doing a great job,” adding that the defense is also playing well. “He’ll get better at seeing the field and doing different concepts the more he plays.”

He acknowledged that DeVito has been “making some big plays down the stretch” and called his two-minute drive against the Green Bay Packers “awesome to see.”

Tommy DeVito’s Agent Has ‘No Doubt’ He Can Win Starter Job in 2024

Whether or not DeVito is a one-time fad has been the talk of the past few weeks. This plot has been seen in New York previously (Jets backup Mike White experienced a similar surge in popularity in 2022), but it isn’t always successful in the long run.

After suffering an injury, losing, and entering free agency, White chose to sign with the Miami Dolphins, second only to Tua Tagovailoa. Paradoxically, if the journeyman had stayed with the Jets, he would have been more likely to start games in 2023.

DeVito’s situation is distinct. Similar to Daniel Jones, the rookie has a 2024 contract and will only earn $915,500 as his base pay in 2019.

Jones is also a Giants player for another year, unless they want to absorb a dead cap of at least $47 million in 2023. Not to mention that a third quarterback might be selected in the draft or through free agency.

It goes without saying that if DeVito keeps up his recent winning streak, this starting position may become open to competition.

“My goal is for [DeVito] to start and sign a long-term contract with the New York Giants,” Sean Stellato, DeVito’s agent, stated to Kay Adams and the “Up & Adams” program on December 12.

Stellato boasted, “I have no doubt he can win this job.” “He’s won the locker room, the coaches have faith in him, and the fans have good intentions. He connects with that fan base simply because of that aura, that passion, and that blue collar underdog mentality.

Jones is a “hell of a quarterback too,” according to the player agent, who gave his client advice to approach the situation “one day at a time, one practice at a time, and one game at a time.”

Giants QB Tommy DeVito Wins NFL Rookie of the Week Award for Week 14

DeVito was a lock to win the NFL’s Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week award because he had already won the NFC offensive player of the week award.

The Giants revealed the outcome of the Week 14 voting on December 14.

DeVito defeated running backs Chase Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Will Levis of the Tennessee Titans, linebacker Ivan Pace of the Minnesota Vikings, and kicker Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys.

This is DeVito’s second rookie of the week honor (he previously won one in Week 11). Giants teammate Jarlin Hyatt has also been recognized for his efforts in Week 12 with this award, so Big Blue has won three of the previous four rookie titles.
