Done deal: Aston Villa has reached a verbal agreement with “unbelievable” defender.
The Midlands side have entered the running to secure the services of a new colossus.
Aston Villa have joined the race to bring a new defender to the Premier League in January, according to a fresh report that has emerged.
Unai Emery’s season so far
NSWE’s team has had an incredible start to the new season, winning ten, drawing two, and losing just three of their first fifteen games. As a result, they are currently ranked third in the top flight table. After Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Man City, Unai Emery will likely know that he doesn’t need to add many more players to his roster, but in any case, the manager seems to have his eye on one player in particular who is playing football abroad.
Stuttgart’s center back Waldemar Anton signed a contract at the MHP Arena from Hannover 96 back in 2020. Since then, he has made 120 appearances and established himself as a consistent member of the starting lineup (Transfermarkt – Anton statistics).
The German, who is also the captain of his side, has just under two years remaining on his deal in the Bundesliga (Stuttgart contracts), and having not yet signed a new deal, the 27-year-old is wanted by three clubs in the top-flight.
Waldemar Anton is of interest to Aston Villa.
TEAMtalk claims that although Anton is a target for Aston Villa, who plan to sign him next month, they will have fierce competition from West Ham and Arsenal, who are also vying for his services in January.
“TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Arsenal has joined West Ham United and Aston Villa in the competition to sign German defender Waldemar Anton.
“It’s thought that the Gunners have previously observed Anton, keeping an eye on him at Hanover 96. It is believed that West Ham and Aston Villa are among the other teams that have checked on Anton more recently.
