ESPN pundit rains on £45m ex-spurs defender for his current form
Nedum Onuoha has claimed that former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker is now ‘one of the best’ full-backs in world football.
Onuoha talked about the England star’s growth under Pep Guardiola on ESPN FC.
Before agreeing to a transfer to the Etihad Stadium back in 2017, Kyle Walker was a fan favorite at Spurs.
After paying an estimated £45 million, Tottenham has reportedly had trouble finding a worthy successor.
Walker did well under Mauricio Pochettino in North London, but few anticipated he would develop into such a complete player at City.
Gary Lineker first objected to his price tag, but he has now acknowledged that he was entirely mistaken.
Nedum Onuoha now feels that Walker is among City’s most improved players under Guardiola.
Onuoha says former Tottenham star Walker is one of the world’s best
When asked who he believed has progressed the most under Guardiola’s direction, the former City defender gave his answer.
Walker was immediately brought up by Onuoha, who called him one of the top full-backs in the world.
“First of all, this is sleepwalking, but it’s Kyle Walker,” he declared. I had a feeling that he would not flourish and end up being regarded as one of the world’s top full-backs.
In agreement, fellow expert Steve Nicol said that at first he wasn’t sure how Walker would fit into Guardiola’s style.
“I wasn’t certain Kyle Walker would fit into this ultra-passing,” the man remarked. But he has, without a doubt. He now plays a crucial role in it.
Walker, 33, is still going strong at full-back, having grown into one of the best in world football.
Spurs supporters were well aware of the defender’s potential after he performed admirably at right-back under Pochettino, with Danny Rose demonstrating similar skill on the other flank.
Tottenham appears to have discovered a guy in Pedro Porro who has a lot of potential, even though they were unable to find a replacement for Walker following his exit.
