Jamie Carragher praises Micky van de Ven, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur
Under Ange Postecoglou, a lot of Tottenham players have continued to flourish, and defender Van van Ven is undoubtedly one of them.
Since coming from Wolfsburg over the summer, the Dutch center back has been magnificent, costing the Spurs a whopping £34.5 million, eventually climbing to £43 million.
Thus far, Van de Ven appears to be a good investment and has established a strong working relationship with Cristian Romero.
After being completely amazed by Van de Ven’s performance against Palace, pundit Carragher has now moved to commend the player.
Carragher stated that Van de Ven had been “brilliant” and “absolutely outstanding” in his remarks on Sky Sports (October 27, at the 94th minute).
In spite of the fact that Van de Ven lost out to James Maddison for the man of the match award, Carragher said he is a “brilliant signing” because of his stature, strength, and quickness.
Carragher remarked, “He has been brilliant, Van de Ven, he’s been absolutely outstanding.” He was a major contributor to both goals, so it’s unfortunate that someone else beat him for man of the match, but he looks like a great addition. He’s adjusted to the physicality of the Premier League, his speed, and his physical stature,” he continued.
Micky van de Ven was out of reach for Liverpool.
Carragher’s commendation coincides with new allegations that Liverpool lost out on Van van Ven.
According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Liverpool was “very interested” in signing Van van Ven but was unable to guarantee him a spot in the starting lineup on a regular basis.
Van de Ven rejected Liverpool’s advances in favor of North London when Tottenham gave him that assurance.
Considering that Reds sporting director Jorg Schmadtke hired Van de Ven for Wolfsburg, a transfer to Anfield did seem to make sense.
Van van Ven would have made sense for Liverpool, as they too lack a natural left-footed center back.
Carragher may be lamenting the way things turned out since it seems like the time wasn’t perfect for Liverpool, but Tottenham will be ecstatic.
