‘Really good’: Gary Neville claims ‘robotic’ Tottenham player is miles better than he initially thought
Last night, Tottenham managed to secure another three points at Crystal Palace by winning once more.
Joel Ward gave them the lead with an own goal, and Heung-Min Son sealed the victory with a brilliant goal. Although Jordan Ayew managed to tie the score, Spurs managed to hold on and move five points ahead.
The season is going remarkably well for Tottenham. Their defense, led by new addition Micky van de Ven and veteran Romero, has been a major factor in their success.
Speaking about Van de Ven, Gary Neville of Sky Sports thinks the defender is better than most people realize.
Gary Neville says Micky van de Ven is even better than people think
Neville discussed the Dutchman prior to last night’s match. Neville adds that Van de Ven is far better than people realize, even if he acknowledged that he thought he was a little “stiff.”
“I believe we made a comment after watching Van de Ven in that game and watching him live against (Manchester United).” Neville remarked, “He looked really stiff, almost robotic on the turn.”
“But after watching him for a while, you realize that he is much better than you realize—he is quick and a really good defender.”
The 22-year-old’s quickness and strength at the back have made him a fan favorite, and he contributed significantly to the victory last night.
Tottenham have signed a real star
When Spurs signed Micky van de Ven in the summer, not many supporters had heard of him.
But those supporters are well aware of who he is these days, and the Dutchman and Romero are developing a strong combination at the center of the Spurs defense.
The offensive prowess of the Spurs is well known. People like Maddison and Son are in high demand.
But, the squad has a solid foundation to build on with Van van Ven and Romero at the back, and it will be crucial that those two continue to be fit and productive moving ahead.
