Romano says ‘brilliant’ £15m player was never actually close to leaving Tottenham this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg never really came close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Romano, who shared the X update, also said that Spurs didn’t formally bid for Connor Gallagher of Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window. Understand that Tottenham did not submit a formal offer for Conor Gallagher on Deadline Day, stated Romano. Despite claims, there was interest but no £40 million bid.The negotiations stalled because Spurs never came close to selling Hojbjerg to Atlético. Chelsea, glad to have Conor on board.
Given that Hojbjerg hasn’t appeared to be a significant part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans, this update may come as a surprise to Tottenham fans.
Hojbjerg, a vital player for the team last season, made his only start for Ange in the EFL Cup loss at Fulham.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old is still at the height of his career given that he was formerly connected with Atletico Madrid.
Perhaps the situation will be reviewed in January, as it appears to have been with Hugo Lloris, a teammate of Hugo’s at Spurs.

However, Tottenham supporters might now ponder whether Hojbjerg will resume playing a larger part in the ensuing weeks.
According to Romano’s update, Hojbjerg is likely to stay put for the time being and will undoubtedly be useful to Tottenham.
Hojbjerg might have to be content with serving as a solid backup since Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr don’t appear to be in danger of being benched.
Naturally, Rodrigo Bentancur will also soon make his recovery from injury.
Bentacur have the skills to flourish as a player under Ange Postecoglou.
And his return will perhaps plummet Hojbjerg even further down the pecking order.
It is obvious that Postecoglou will need time and a few transfer windows to assemble a team totally in his likeness.
Many players will join and many will depart.
Fans might also ponder whether Hojbjerg’s departure is still imminent.
