O’Rourke Exclusive: West Ham talks over extension now face collapse

Sources: Major Tomas Soucek update after new West Ham talks

Tomas Soucek and West Ham have been in contract negotiations for the past year, but they have stopped.

The 28-year-old has recently been associated with Inter Milan, one of the top teams in Italy.

Currently, Soucek’s contract with West Ham expires at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, though the London club has the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

The Irons are thought to be eager to keep the Czech Republic international at the club and have held discussions about a new contract.

However, those talks have come to a standstill, leaving Inter as a viable contender.

Since Declan Rice left West Ham during the summer transfer window, Soucek has continued to play an important role in the team.

In his first 10 appearances of the 2023–24 season, he has already scored four goals and provided one assist.

With West Ham currently sitting seventh in the rankings, the former Slavia Prague player has started all but one of their Premier League games.

He scored three goals and provided six assists in 50 games across all competitions for the Irons team that won the Europa Conference League last season.

Soucek signed a contract with West Ham in January 2020, and since then, he has made 165 appearances for the team.

The aggressive midfielder, who reportedly cost the Londoners £19 million in all, has scored 26 goals and provided nine assists during his stint at the London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen’s talisman status has recently been cemented by West Ham with a new deal that runs through 2030.

Among the other Irons players whose contracts expire at the end of this season are Vladimir Coufal, Michail Antonio, Lukasz Fabianski, and Angelo Ogbonna.
