West Ham at the verge of losing ‘powerful’ midfielder to Italian giants and UCL challengers

West Ham risk damaging exit as UCL heavyweights line up deal for powerful midfielder

Tomas Soucek, a midfielder for West Ham United, has reportedly caught Inter Milan’s attention. Inter Milan is a Serie A team and a Champions League challenger.

Since Soucek is in the last year of his deal with West Ham, he can negotiate a free transfer for the next year. Il Corriere Dello Sport reports that if he were to be released, Inter might try to help him take the next step in his career.

According to the newspaper, Inter has decided to take advantage of the free-agent market once more in 2024, and as a result, they have chosen Soucek as a potential target.

Inter would consider making a move for the Czech Republic international if he becomes available after being impressed by his physical and tactical abilities.

Originally joining on a loan from Slavia Prague in January 2020, Soucek has been a member of West Ham since the summer of that year.

His 165 career appearances for West Ham, where he has made 26 goals and added nine assists, have made them the club he has currently played for the most. From 10 games this season in all competitions, he has already scored four goals.

For Soucek, who played all of his club football in his home country until moving to England with West Ham, competing in Italy would be a new experience.

Soucek, who won the Europa Conference League last season, might join Inter in the Champions League if they make it after coming in second place in 2023–24 if they finish second in the competition. In his final six months with Slavia Prague, Soucek participated in UEFA’s elite competition for the last time.

Soucek could extend stay at West Ham

Who else could be interested in the 28-year-old is yet to be determined. West Ham may extend his contract until 2027, according to a prior TEAMtalk story, which would appear to defeat Inter’s objectives given that they have been concentrating on him as a potential free agent.

After West Ham sold Declan Rice in the summer, Soucek is currently the midfielder with the longest tenure at the club. James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, recent recruits to the position from Southampton and Ajax, respectively, are the new rivals.

While this was going on, Inter made changes to their midfield by bringing in Davide Frattesi on loan from Sassuolo and Davy Klaassen on a free transfer from Ajax, while also releasing Roberto Gagliardini to Monza and selling Marcelo Brozovic to Al-Nassr.

Klaassen only agreed to a one-year contract to play for Simone Inzaghi’s team, whose other contract expirations at the end of the year are Stefano Sensi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
